LIFE Multi-AD technology demonstrates industrial validity

The development and industrialization phase of the LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMes project, an innovative fully automated system for the treatment of wastewater generated by small and medium-sized companies in the agri-food sector, based on a technology patented by AEMA | Bondalti Water, has come to an end.

The innovative Multi-AD solution, installed on an industrial scale at Bodegas AGE, Spain, demonstrated its capacity to reduce wastewater contamination by more than 95%, as well as the potential to reduce electricity consumption in purification processes by 186,000 kWh/year, while also reducing the cost of managing sludge by around 80%.

Simultaneously with wastewater purification, Multi-AD technology produces high-quality biogas with a methane content of more than 80%. This fuel gas is used as a source of thermal energy in the purification system itself, although it can also be used in other areas of the installation, contributing to the decarbonization of industrial processes.

These results make it possible to achieve a reduction in the operating costs of the water treatment system by more than a third and a reduction in the carbon footprint associated with purification by more than 50%.

The development of LIFE Multi-AD began in September 2018, under a consortium led by AEMA, and ended on June 30. LIFE MULTI-AD technology is based on the high-performance multiphase anaerobic reactor design patented by AEMA | Bondalti Water and its production will now be customized according to the specific needs of each customer.
