“Ports already play a critical role in our current value chain and will certainly continue to play their role in integrating hydrogen and its derivatives into future international value chains.” This was the key idea defended by José Nogueira, coordinator of the hydrogen area at Bondalti, during a seminar co-sponsored in Lisbon by WAveC - Offshore Renewables and the Dutch embassy, with the theme “Paving the Way for Large Scale Offshore Wind Deployment”.
The head of Bondalti participated, together with other specialists, in the session entitled “Port infrastructures enabling offshore renewable energies and hydrogen expansion”, which focused on the strategies and innovations involved in expanding port facilities to accommodate the needs of the offshore wind sector and its interconnection with the emerging hydrogen sector.
José Nogueira emphasized that “given the successful development of the offshore wind industry in the Netherlands over the past ten years, especially the significant reduction achieved in the LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy), it is clear that the modernization of the port infrastructure will allow the exploration of an additional source of renewable energy”. For the Bondalti representative, “this is a fundamental step not only for the decarbonization of the current industry, but also for the development of new business models and industrial capacity around hydrogen and its derivatives.”
