“Flexibility and innovation” are the paths of success for SMEs

“The global economy faces the challenge and the need for a new paradigm. As with any industrial revolution, there are associated risks, but also many opportunities.” It was based on this characterization of the current context that Luís Delgado, director of Bondalti, spoke at the international conference entitled “ESG Strategy for Exporting SMEs”, which took place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.

When participating in the roundtable dedicated to the theme “ESG Champions in Portugal - Leading for example”, this Bondalti official argued that “to be successful at this turning point, SMEs must be highly flexible and innovative to find these opportunities that reside in topics such as energy transition and decarbonization, bioeconomy, social or digital investment”.

At a meeting whose central objective was to raise awareness and support for exporting SMEs with a view to the adoption of environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, Luís Delgado emphasized the opinion that “only those who know how to navigate these issues will survive by identifying the ESG needs of their clients to become indispensable partners”.

The conference was sponsored by the State Secretariat for Internationalization, organized by AICEP, and included a large panel of national and international speakers. Topics such as the general ESG framework and the implications that its most recent developments will bring to companies, the positive correlation with their good global performance, legal obligations, and access to finance to meet ESG metrics were discussed.
