A little more than a year after the start of the support program for the protection of brown bears in Cantabria, an emblematic species and symbol of the region's natural heritage, local authorities have highlighted Bondalti's invaluable contribution to achieving this objective, materialized in the provision of various equipment designed to ensure better monitoring and conservation of the species.
In addition to an X-ray device and its revealing device, the support also includes 37 video surveillance cameras with autonomous operation, placed at strategic points in the Cantabrian mountain range to learn about the movement patterns and the daily activity of brown bears.
The various protection actions have allowed a sustained increase in the population of the species, which went from only about six dozen specimens in the 80s - then in real danger of extinction - to the current 370.
