Ecomare program breaks new record

Ecomare, a program developed by the Center for the Recovery of Marine Animals (CRAM) of the University of Aveiro, and supported by Bondalti since 2016, set a new record for the admission of marine animals in need of recovery, with 508 specimens being accepted by the end of October - 28% more than in 2022.

The release rate was around 15%, with an average length of hospitalization of 41 days. The rescued animals originated in 26 counties in the country, with a predominance of Ílhavo and Figueira da Foz.

Around 150 animals admitted were the result of alerts from citizens, proof of the increasing visibility of CRAM/Ecomare among the general population, which has also been reflected in the significant increase in the number of followers of this program on social networks.
